The Basics of Heart Health

Did you know that February is American Heart Month? To celebrate, the Senior Helpers family would like to share some tips on basic heart health for you and your aging loved ones.

We know that changing too much at once can be overwhelming, so here are some quick and easy tips you can throw into your everyday schedules.

Work It Out: Put a little pep in your step! Exercise is a great way to keep your heart healthy. Next time you go to the mall, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Try parking your car farther away when you drive to the grocery store. Little workouts can add up!

Relax: Stress can negatively affect your body in more ways than one. Constant stress can especially take a toll on your heart. Try taking yoga (this can also help in the exercise department!) or taking deep breaths for five minutes each day.

Drop the Bad Habits: Smoking and drinking dramatically increase your chances of heart disease. Love your heart by ditching these old habits and replacing them with better habits such as knitting or cooking.

Keep checking back this month for more tips on how to make this month your healthiest month yet!
