Parkinson’s Care

Whether you care for someone who has been recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, are adjusting to new challenges as the disease progresses or have been living with Parkinson’s for a long time, a strong support network is essential for your wellbeing. Parkinson’s disease presents a unique challenge for caregivers, but there are many things you can do to maintain and improve quality of life and live well with Parkinson’s disease. At Senior Helpers of West Edmonton, our goal is to be a trusted, integral part of your support network. We will work with your family and medical team to provide care for the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease to help your loved one remain comfortable and as independently as possible given their condition.

Expertly Trained in Parkinson's Disease Care

Our Parkinson’s Care Program is the first of its kind in the in-home senior care industry. Created in conjunction with leading experts from the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Center of Excellence network, this program provides the specialized training and education that allows our caregivers to develop personalized care plans for those with Parkinson’s disease.

As the disease advances, your loved one’s needs will change. We know from the start that the in-home care plan must be able to evolve along with them, and our office and caregivers will work with your family to make the personalized recommendations and adaptations required to meet these specific needs as they arise.

Senior Helpers caregivers are educated and trained on:

  • How Parkinson’s disease advances and changes
  • Techniques and strategies to identify and manage the motor (mobility/movement) and non-motor (cognitive/behavioral) symptoms of Parkinson’s
  • Home safety and fall prevention
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Medication timing/management and reminders
  • Light exercise to maintain balance, mobility and strength
  • How to notice changes in posture and facial expression and provide comfortable adjustments to maintain coordination and balance
