Brighten the Holidays for Lonely Seniors

   

As the holiday season begins, we're reminded that many seniors may feel lonely during this time of year.

According the report, A Profile of Social Isolation in Canada, by the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging at Mount Saint Vincent University, 30% of Canadian seniors are at risk of becoming socially isolated.

Furthermore, as reported by the International Federation on Ageing, "The number one emerging issue facing seniors in Canada is keeping older people socially connected and active."

Feelings of isolation and sadness can become more pronounced around the holidays given the emphasis on celebrating with friends and family.

It's important to be supportive of and attentive to our elderly population and including those closest to you. Use these ideas to brighten up a lonely senior’s holiday season!

Prioritize Communication
